According to the Association for Advancing Automation, US companies installed more robots in 2018 than ever before thanks to less expensive (and with more capabilities) machines. Shipments hit 28,478, nearly 16 percent more than in 2017. The growth is fueled by companies seeking to reduce labor costs.
Shipments to food and consumer goods companies increased 60 percent compared with the year before. Shipments to semiconductor and electronics plants were up over 50 percent, and shipments to metal producers rose 13 percent.
