Doing Business As (dba)

You could register your business with a fictitious name. A fictitious name, also known as a “doing business as” or “dba” name, is a name that is different from your personal name if doing business as a sole proprietorship, or your entity’s legal name, if you have incorporated or otherwise formed a separate legal business entity. This requires any person (which includes an individual as well as a business entity) to register their “dba” name with the Department of State prior to conducting business.

Companies “doing business as” are frequently regarded with suspicion (which may, or may not, be well founded).
